“Cast your bread upon the waters”

Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.」(Ecclesiastes 11:1

As we fight against COVID 19, probably the restaurant businesses are the ones thathave beenhit the most.  There is no guest coming, sharp dropping of sales, and fear of closing businesses.  Yet, in spite of the difficulties, there are restaurants which offer take away and delivery services to fight against.  One ramen restaurant was packing ramen soup in a paper cup to sell, or a highend restaurant offered a monthly menu of “the taste around the world” by putting English meals into a plastic container, and selling in front of a luxury hotel.  We certainly hope these efforts will be fruitful in the future.

Our church was also forced to refrain from having worship services since last August.  It was a sad decision for us to make.  On the first Sunday of no worship, th
ere was a man
who came to the church, and said “I come to attend the worship.  Will there be a worship, today?  I have been listening to your preaching by the train station every week.”  I humbly explained to him about our situation, and introduced the internet worship which was about to start.  At the same time, I was encouraged by realizing the meaning of “cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.”

You may also be the same.  In the time of COVID 19 pandemic, you may feel “what good would it do, if I do such a thing?”  “To cast bread upon waters” which may seem meaningless to you, yet the Bible encourage you that such action will lead to the success.

I pray for all of us, including those in restaurant businesses, medical services, and you will find hope in the Bible.
