You are God’s workmanship

Years ago, we invited a short-term missionary from the US, teaching us English at our church. She was a mother who raised four children. One day at the women’s group, they started to talk about what they have to commemorate their children’s childhood. Many of them said “a preserved umbilical cord.” Then, they asked the same question to the Missionary form the US. She answered “baby shoes.” An umbilical cord represents as the symbol of bonding between a baby and a mother. Yet, baby shoes represent as the first step of a baby becoming independent. It was interesting to see a cultural difference.

The bonding between parents and children is necessary, but now days in Japan, we see many incidents which destroy the bond which is represented by the preserved umbilical cord. The fundamental question here is that who give life to a person, parents or who else. The Bible teaches us as follows:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)”

According to the Bible, we are “God’s workmanship.” And not only that, there is a purpose of the creation. The purpose is “to do good work.” You are created in uniqueness, and you are the only one existing in the world. You are created to do good work. Furthermore, “God prepared in advance for us to do good things.” Wouldn’t you like to get to know the Bible, so that you may find those good works which only you can accomplish.

May God bless you.
